Bhubaneswar: The by-election to the Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha will be held on October 21, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday.
Announcing the date at a press briefing in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said the filing of nomination papers will begin from the date of notification for the by-polls on September 23 and continue till September 30.
While the verification of the nomination papers will be held on October 1, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 3.
The election will be held on October 21 and the votes will be counted and results announced on October 24.
Notably, the Bijepur Assembly seat had fallen vacant after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vacated it after the state elections this year.
The Chief Minister had contested from Hinjili and Bijepur Assembly seats and won from both places. He, however, decided to retain his home constituency of Hinjili.
