Bargarh: Congress candidate Pranaya Sahu on Tuesday would file his nomination for the ensuing byelection to the Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district scheduled on February 24.
Sources in the party said Sahu would file his nomination before the Returning Officer at the office of the Sub-Collector at Padmapur for which the party has made elaborate arrangements.
Several top leaders of the party have congregated at Padmapur since Monday night to attend Sahu’s nomination filing.
Prior to the filing of nomination, a public meeting would be held at the RMC Ground near Goru Padia from where Sahu would be taken on a massive rally around Padmapur town. Later, the rally would reach the Sub Collector’s office where Sahu would file his nomination in the presence of senior party leaders including Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan, Naba Das, former Union minister Srikant Jena, Prakash Debata and Suresh Routray.
“The people of Bijepur constituency who have always voted for Congress in the previous elections will repose their trust in the party in this by-election,” Sahu said.
While six candidates have filed their nomination, Sahu would file his nomination on Tuesday, the last day for filing nomination as notified by the Election Commission.
