Bargarh: Congress candidate Pranaya Sahu on Tuesday filed his nomination for the ensuing byelection to the Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district scheduled on February 24.
Sahu filed his nomination before the Returning Officer at the office of the Sub-Collector at Padmapur.
Prior to the filing of nomination, a public meeting was held at the RMC Ground near Goru Padia from where Sahu was taken on a massive rally around Padmapur town. Later, the rally later reached the Sub Collector’s office where Sahu filed his nomination before the Returning Officer.
Several party leaders including Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan, former OPCC president Jayadev Jena, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal, Kishore Patel, Bapi Sarkel, Naba Das, former Union minister Srikant Jena, Prakash Debata, Suresh Routray, Sadhu Nepak, Nihar Ranjan Mahananda, Lalatendu Mohapatra and Bargarh District Congress president Sayan Padhi were present.
“The people of Bijepur constituency who have always voted for Congress in the previous elections will repose their trust in the party in this by-election,” Sahu said.
While six candidates have filed their nomination, Sahu filed his nomination on the last day of filing nominations as notified by the Election Commission following a delayed announcement of his name by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
