Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the byelection to the Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district on February 24, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate will file nomination on February 5.
“As decided by the party, I will file my nomination on February 5,” said BJD’s candidate Rita Sahu, widow of former Congress MLA of Bijepur Subala Sahu, after a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here on Sunday.
On the occasion, 53 Congress workers, including the former Sarpanch and Samiti members of Gaisilat block under Bijepur Assembly constituency, formally joined the BJD in presence of the Chief Minister.
Welcoming them, Naveen said their joining would further strengthen the BJD.

Maintaining that the BJD will win the bypoll convincingly, he said a large number of leaders from other political parties from various blocks, panchayats and villages under Bijepur Assembly constituency joining the BJD almost every day, speaks volume of the immense popularity of his party and the trust people have reposed on the Chief Minister.
The meeting also discussed the strategies for the ensuing bypoll.
