Biju Statue Vandalised, Rajnagar Tense

Trinath Bazar area of Rajnagar was tense after criminals decapitated a statue of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik at Biju Smruti Sadan on Tuesday night.

Former BJD MLA Alekha Kumar Jena had unveiled the structure on April 16, 2017. She has since switched to the BJP, contesting on a BJP ticket from Rajnagar Assembly seat in the last election. The Biju Smruti Sadan is now under Jena’s control.

Following the desecration, Biju fans blockaded roads by burning tyres at Trinath Bazar and demanded the arrest of the accused. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded. Rajnagar police rushed to the spot to control the situation. The blockade was withdrawn only after the police assured an inquiry and arrest of the accused. But no FIR had been lodged till reports last came in
