firing at lyricist Gulab Sidhu residence

Barnala (Punjab): Popular Punjabi lyricist and singer Gulab Sidhu’s home in Barnala’s Farwahi village came under attack in the early hours of Sunday.

According to CCTV footage obtained by police, three unidentified men arrived on a two-wheeler around 1.35 am, took a U-turn outside the house and fired at least seven shots.

Several bullets struck the gate of Gulab’s residence. The singer is currently in Australia, but his parents, wife and children were inside the house at the time of the incident. None of them was injured in the firing.

Gulab was close to rapper Shubhdeep Singh, popularly known Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead four years ago when he was driving his car in Punjab’s Mansa district. Gulab’s Instagram display picture carries the tagline ‘Justice for Sidhu Moosewala’.

The two were known to be close, and had collaborated for songs a number of times.

Investigators are trying to find out if there is a link with the Moosewala killing.

Gulab had been targeted earlier by some gangsters, following which police provided him with armed securitypersons.

Barnala Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sanjeev Goyal said multiple teams had been formed to identify and arrest those responsible for the firing.

More CCTV footage is being examined and police are also examining mobile phone dump data from nearby towers to trace possible movements of the suspects.
