Cuttack: Police on Tuesday arrested five persons of a bike lifting gang and recovered 22 motorcycles from their possession.
Following a complaint lodged by Saroj Kumar Behera of Jagatpur at Badambadi police station stating that his motorcycle was stolen in front of Bharatia Tower on October 14. Following investigation, police confirmed that Rinku alias Kunjabihari Nayak of Patkura in Kendrapada district and Silu alias Soumendra Das of Jaipur in Jagatsinghpur district had committed the crime and arrested them.
Their interrogation revealed that three others were involved in the racket and they had stolen several motorcycles. It led to arrest of Suryakanta Khatua of Jagatsinghpur, Taju Khan of Khurda and Niranjan Behera of Khurda.
Badambadi police also recovered 22 stolen motorcycles stolen by the gang from different parts of the city.
It maybe noted that the Commissionerate Police had busted a bike lifting gang while conducting probe into the theft of a pick-up van under Jagatpur police limits on October 24. Five persons were arrested and 35 stolen motorcycles recovered from their possession following a raid in Keonjhar district.
