Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested 4 members of an inter-district bike lifting gang including a minor boy in the city.
Twin City Police Commmissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi told the media that in order to nab the miscreants involved in stealing vehicles in the two cities, they had lunched a special drive.
During the drive, the Malgodown police arrested 4 persons belonging to a gang and five ‘receivers’. The police also recovered 32 stolen bikes from their possession.
Priyadarshi said the gang members used to target the bikes and other two-wheelers parked in medicals and educational institutions. They were stealing the bikes with duplicate keys. After lifting a vehicle, they changed its registration number and sold to the customer for Rs 5,000 to 6,000, he added.
While investigating a stolen vehicle, the Malgodown police nabbed two miscreants and from their interrogation, other members of the gang and those who had purchased the vehicles from them were arrested.
The gang was mostly active in Cuttack, Khurda, Ganjam, Kendrapada and Angul districts, Priyadarshi said and added that the stolen vehicles have been returned to their owners.
