New Delhi: The Gujarat government has been directed by Supreme Court to place all relevant documents, including remission order given to the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case.
The apex court was on Friday hearing public interest litigations filed by CPI(M) Politburo member Subhashini Ali, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, journalist Revathy Laul and activist Roop Rekha Rani challenging premature release of all 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case.
The bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and BV Nagarathna gave the Gujarat government two weeks to produce all relevant records in the case.

The accused were convicted for gang-raping Bilkis and murder of seven members of her family, and sentenced to life imprisonment. But having served over 15 years in jail, the convicts were set free last month under Gujarat’s remission policy.
The premature release triggered was strongly condemned by many. About 6,000 people, including activists and historians, urged the top court to revoke the early release of the convicts in the case.
