Bilkis Bano Case: Supreme Court Notice To Gujarat On Plea Against Remission To 11 Convicts

New Delhi: Hearing pleas against remission granted to Bilkis Bano’s rapists, the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Gujarat government to file its response in the matter and asked the petitioners to make the 11 convicts party to the case.

The apex court posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

Notably, public interest litigations were filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo Member Subhashini Ali, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, journalist Revathy Laul and activist Roop Rekha Rani after the 11 convicts walked out of jail on August 15.

Following their release, Bilkis Bano said it has “shaken” her faith in the justice system and left her “shocked” and “numb”.
