Bhubaneswar: As many as 63 chickens died of a suspected heart attack in a poultry firm in Balasore district on Sunday night. This happened after loud music was played at a marriage procession.
The matter came to the fore after the farm owner Ranjit Kumar Parida registered a complaint with Nilagiri police station on Tuesday.
According to Parida, the marriage procession with a DJ band passed in front of his farm at Kandagarandi village around 11.40 pm on Sunday, the sound of which was ear-splitting.
“I requested the band operators to lower the volume as the music was too noisy and panicky for the chickens, who were shivering terribly. But the groom’s friends shouted at me and instructed the band to increase the volume. They purposely halted in front of my poultry farm for about 15 minutes and played noisy music,” read Parida’s complaint.
After the procession crossed the area, Parida was surprised to see many of the fowl unconscious in his farm. A veterinary expert was contacted on Monday who said that the chickens died of heart attack. He said that the chicken didn’t have any pre-existing disease.
“There were around 2,000 chickens in my farm. Each of the 63 dead chickens would be around 3 kg. I suffered a loss of around Rs 25,000. The dead chickens are still lying in the farm as the police have asked me not to dispose them of until the end of the inquiry,” Parida was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
Cops said the matter is being probed. “The Nilagiri police station has received a complaint in this regard. The charges are being verified,” superintendent of police (Balasore) Sudhanshu Mishra was quoted as saying by the national daily.
