Kolkata: This is as bizarre a ‘theft’ as you would have ever heard.
A Swiggy delivery person apparently ‘stole’ two tickets for first T20 International between India and England which was played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Wednesday night.
The complainant is actress Swastika Mukherjee, who lashed out at Swiggy claiming that the delivery person ran off with two tickets for the match after picking them up from the designated location.
According to the actress, a Swiggy Genie executive collected the tickets from New Town Action Area 2 a day before the match, and was assigned to deliver it to another address.
The order was placed at 6.30 pm, and was marked delivered on the app at 5.37 pm, claimed Swastika.
“It showed that the delivery partner was en route all along. After an hour, the delivery partner blocked me and my partner’s number and stopped taking calls from any number,” Swastika wrote on Instagram with a ‘theft alert’.
The tickets were meant for the parents of Swastika’s manager Shristi Jain.
“Those tickets were for my partner’s father, who has never seen a live match in spite of being a huge fan of cricket. He has travelled all the way from Kanpur to witness a match at Eden Gardens. The tickets are gone and I’ve lost all hope to get them back,” she wrote on Tuesday.
The actress and her manager shared their concerns with Swiggy customer support, but the company allegedly failed to offer any assistance.
“It’s been more than 13 hours and Swiggy hasn’t helped in any way. Does Swiggy/other delivery platforms promote the stealing of parcels to safeguard their brand or their delivery executives?” Swastika asked.
Swastika shared a screenshot of the Swiggy Genie order, along with details of the delivery executive including his picture and phone number.
Swastika’s manager later revealed that Swiggy had called them to compensate with money or dinner for her parents, but was unable to do anything about the delivery partner.
Eco Park police managed to nab the delivery person, but the match was already underway then.
Several users sympathised with Swastika, joining her in castigating Swiggy.
“Swiggy only responds to unnecessary posts when they get all the praises,” commented one person.
“Swiggy Genie has no protection policy. They just pick random guys from the market without any prior verification and Kolkata is the worst for all such cases,” wrote another user.
