Bhubaneswar: A student died after drowning in the Kuakhai river, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on Tuesday.
The student has been identified as Sheikh Irshad Ali, a native of Jajpur district who was pursuing studies at BJB College in the state capital.
According to sources, Ali reportedly went to the river at the Balakati siphon area around 4 pm for a bath, shortly after completing his PG examination, along with six friends. Ali lost his footing while bathing and fell into the river. His companions immediately raised an alarm and sought help. A Fire Services team, including scuba divers, soon reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The body was finally recovered after around 2 hours of searching.
Further investigation is underway into the incident.
