Bhubaneswar: Traffic between Kalpana and Rabi Talkies Squares here remained suspended with hundreds of students of BJB Autonomous College resorting to road blockade since Friday night protesting against cancellation of students’ union elections.
The agitating students are demanding roll back of decision to call off the election and revoking of the sine die order.
Following pre-poll violence on the campus, the authorities on Friday cancelled the elections and announced that the college will remain closed sine die till further orders. The students have been asked to vacate hostels by Saturday evening.
The move came after some miscreants hurled bombs near the girls’ hostel of the college on Thursday night. The watchman of the hostel was injured in the incident.
The students’ union polls at the college were also cancelled last year due to violence and unrest.
Meanwhile, heavy police forces have been deployed near the college to prevent any untoward incident.
On the other hand, Brahmagiri College too witnessed unruly scenes after bombs were hurled on campus.
