Bhubaneswar: Hailing his party as a people’s movement and not just a political party, Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik on Thursday said it has all along been with the people and working for their well-being.

As a two-day organisation meeting of the party kicked off at Bhubaneswar ahead of its month-long Jan Sampark Padyatra from October 2, Naveen in a message  asked party workers an leaders to make the initiative successful.

The programme, which coincided with BJP national President J P Nadda’s meeting at Janata Maidan, assumed significance as all major political parties are now gearing up for the 2024 elections.

Senior leaders including Ministers who attended the preparatory meeting, highlighted the work done by the Naveen government in the last 22 years for the development of the state and welfare of its people.

Though Naveen did not attend the meeting as he was away in Bengaluru, he gave a video message to the participants who gathered to discuss the future roadmap and deliberate on the annual Jan Sampark padayatra which seeks to share the message of the Chief Minister’s pro-people initiatives with the public.

Asking party members to make the initiative a success, the Chief Minister in his message said that BJD has become a people’s movement over the years.

“Our party is with the people and will always work for their best interests. Through this programme, we must bring to people’s notice all the measures our government has undertaken for their welfare,” he said.

Naveen also advised party leaders to highlight the contribution of Odisha in the struggle for India’s independence and contribution of leaders from the state in the freedom movement.

Addressing the meeting, BJD organising secretary Pranab Prakash Das said that the party which came into being 25 years ago after the death of legendary Biju Patnaik has transformed itself into a mass movement.

Since then, the popularity of BJD has been increasing and its vote share rising in every successive election as Naveen Patnaik is working sincerely and wholeheartedly for development of the state and welfare of its people.

Senior leaders including party MLAs, Ministers, MPs, district presidents, Zilla Parishad members, block chairmen and mayors of three municipal corporations of the state were present at the meeting.

At Karyakarta Sammelan of BJP held around the same time at Janata Maidan here, Nadda exhorted party cadres to uproot the BJD government riddled with corruption in Odisha.
