Kendrapada: In a major set back, Biju Jajata Dal (BJD) has lost the post of chairperson of Mahakalapada Block in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
BJD-supported Block chairperson Kalpana Raut lost faced defeat in the no-confidence motion brought against her.
Out of 62 members, 49 voted in favour of the no-confidence motion. Notably, 13 Sarpanch and Samiti members abstained from voting.
Sources said that 49 members supported the no-confidence motion. A total of 62 Sarpanch and Samiti members from 31 Panchayats were present in the block.
BJD-supported Kalpana Rout required the support of two-thirds or 44 members to survive the no-confidence motion.
