Bhubaneswar: Opposition Congress and Biju Janata Dal alleged that the mic was turned off when their leaders spoke in the Assembly on the opening day of the budget session on Monday.
BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik alleged that the microphone and camera were switched off when Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik’s microphone spoke in the House.
Stating that the party condemns such action, she told media that the party has informed Speaker Surama Padhy about the incident in writing.
Bringing similar allegation, Congress MLA Sofia Firdous claimed that the mic was turned off when legislature party leader Rama Chandra Kadam spoke in the Assembly.
The mic was muted when the CLP leader was speaking on alleged assault on an assistant section officer (ASO) by Governor’s son Lalit Kumar and police ‘inaction’ in the matter.
Terming the act of turning the mic off when an important issue was being raised as inappropriate, she such incident should not happen in the House in future.
Congress will continue to raise its voice against injustice, she said, adding, “people are watching everything and they will not accept it.”
Notably, both BJD and Congress boycotted the Governor’s address on the opening day of the Assembly session in protest against the assault on an ASO by Governor’s son and police inaction in the matter.
Congress demanded thorough probe into the incident and arrest of the Governor’s son.
