Bhubaneswar: With Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fielding a Congress-backed candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister on Tuesday alleged that there was always a secret understanding between the two opposition parties.
“There has been a secret understanding between BJD and Congress for a long time. Ties existing between the two parties have now been exposed with Congress supporting BJD’s Rajya Sabha candidate,” said Sarangi, who is
now a Lok Sabha member.
Responding to queries from reporters, the former Union Minister said that BJP is not worried about BJP and Congress coming together as both these parties are now struggling for survival.
“We are not worried about possible horse-trading in the upcoming biennial election. BJP has faced such challenges in the past,” he said.
The veteran BJP leader further alleged that Congress has forged ties with BJD out of fear as its very existence is under serious threat after defeat in successive elections. “With people moving away from the party, Congress has joined hands with BJD out of fear simply to make its presence felt. However, the so-called alliance will harm Congress in the long run,” Sarangi claimed.
Stating that the ideologies, working style and principles of Congress and BJD are different, the BJP leader said both these parties are bound to indulge in serious fight in future.
