Bhubaneswar: In a bid to bolster its prospects in the by-election to Nuapada Assembly Constituency in Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday appointed senior leaders to coordinate various organisational activities ahead of the polling scheduled to be held on November 11.

In an office order signed by BJD president Naveen Patnaik, 21 leaders have been deployed to manage sectoral responsibilities and strengthen the party’s campaign machinery in the constituency.

The leaders deployed in the Assembly segment are Pramila Mallik, Niranjan Bishi, Tukuni Sahu, Subhash Singh, Ramesh Majhi, Latika Pradhan, Prakash Majhi, Alka Mohanty, Dolly Majhi, Mohammad Adam, Sk Nizamuddin, Prafulla Singh, Bhanupratap Singh Majhi, Sanjit Mohanty, Giriraj Singh Majhi, Gourihari Mishra, Bhisma Dev Saraf, Raju Gheebela, Nandlal Singh, Japan Mohapatra, and Prabir Mohanty.

As per the order, this deployment comes into immediate effect, with the assigned leaders expected to oversee sector-specific coordination, voter outreach, and grassroots mobilisation in the run-up to the bye-poll.

The move highlights BJD’s strategic focus on retaining the politically significant constituency in western Odisha amid tough challenges posed by both the ruling BJP and Congress.

The by-election has been necessitated following the demise of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8.

While the ruling BJP has fielded late Rajendra Dholakia’s son Jay Dhoakia, tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi is contesting the bypoll as Congress candidate.
