Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD on Saturday opposed the shifting of the railway electrification (RE) office in Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru.
BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said the move is a clear violation of the model code of conduct and a BJP ploy to win elections in Karnataka.
Stating that the electrification work of railways will be adversely affected due to the shifting of the office, Patra said the move has exposed the anti-Odisha stand of the saffron party.
Referring to the recent decision to form South Coast Railway (SCoR) by carving out parts of East Coast Railway (ECoR), the BJD spokesperson further alleged that BJP had always been against the development of Odisha.
Along with shifting of the RE office that includes merger of different units in the country, work assigned to RE/Bhubaneswar for electrification of Azimganj-New Farakka line in Bengal has been shifted to Danapur in Bihar for better monitoring of ongoing projects, there.
This is not the first time that RE has closed down any of its offices. Various projects like Ranchi, Mathura and Kota were closed down in the past. The units in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata are to be closed after March 31.
