Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD has decided to hold a three-day protest against the steep hike in petrol and diesel prices from September 7 to 9.
“Members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal will stage demonstrations before different petrol pumps across the state during the three days between 10 am to 12 noon. They will distribute leaflets among public for sensitising them regarding Centre’s exploitation in the name of rise in fuel prices in international market”, said BJD general secretary Sanjay Das Burma in a press meet here.
Besides, public meetings and demonstrations will also be organised by the party at various places of the state, Das Burma added.
The skyrocketing fuel prices have adversely affected all sections of people, especially middleclass, poor, farmers, students and women, as well as all sectors of the economy, he added further.
On the other hand, the state unit of BJP has termed the ruling party’s protest as an attempt to gain political mileage and asked it to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products so that the fuel prices could come down.
