Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD on Friday announced its decision to organise a two-hour peaceful protest on Saturday across the state against the prevailing ATM cash crunch issue.
Addressing a media conference here, BJD general secretary Sanjay Dasburma said, “Separate demonstrations will be organised by the party members for two hours (10 am to 12 pm) in front of Reserve Bank of India and other nationalised banks in sub-divisions and blocks of the state. However, operations in banks will not be affected due to the proposed protest.”
Hitting out at the Centre for its alleged failure in resolving the issue of empty ATMs in the country, for the past few weeks, Dasburma said that people from all walks of life, including farmers, women and students have largely been affected due to the unexpected crisis.
On the other hand, BJP vice president Sameer Mohanty alleged that the BJD is attempting to trigger panic among the people of Odisha for political gains. He said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik could have discussed the matter with the bankers before taking the decision to stage protest.
