Bhadrak: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Asit Patnaik has landed in trouble following an FIR against him for allegedly celebrating his birthday in a grand manner on a government complex in Odisha’s Bhadrak town without the required permission.
According to sources, a grand event was organised at government RMC Market Complex here on Tuesday evening to celebrate the birthday of Asit, son of former Odisha Minister Jugal Patnaik. His supporters reportedly burst firecrackers with DJ playing music and also held a bike rally.
Following the celebration, Bhadrak sub-collector Manoj Patra ordered an inquiry and observed that political events should not be held on government premises without permission. He then directed Puruna Bazar Police IIC to take strict action in this regard.
“An FIR has been lodged on the basis of a complaint lodged by the sub-collector,” said the IIC.
Asit, on the other hand, said that he was invited to the event and did not know anything about the permission.
Sources further said the event is being politically perceived as a show of strength against local BJD MLA Sanjib Mallick and it is being alleged that the sub-collector filed the FIR at the behest of the latter.
