Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray on Tuesday resigned from the post of president of the Football Association of Odisha (FAO).
In a letter to FAO secretary Ashirbad Behera, the BJD leader said he stepping down as he is unable to give justice to the post of FAO president due to his busy schedule and personal engagement.
“Due to my busy schedule and personal engagement, I am unable to give justice to the post of President, F.A.O. Therefore, I resign from the post and I am sure under your leadership the association will work in promoting football in Odisha,” he said in the letter.
Samantaray’s resignation came ahead of the election for FAO office bearers slated to be held on July 21, sources said.
