Bhubaneswar: Six days after being admitted to a city-based private hospital, BJD leader Minakshi Mishra of Berhampur succumbed to burns on Thursday.
According to hospital sources, Minakshi was kept on ventilator support for three days. The doctors had given her one unit of blood on Wednesday. The following day, the on-duty doctors found that she was not responding to the treatment and declared her dead at 9.55 am.
Mishra had sustained severe burn injuries after she set herself on fire in front of the office of Berhampur SP on February 12. She was protesting against the arrest of her son, Raja Mishra, in a group clash in front of her house on January 28 over parking issue.
To redress her grievance, Minakshi had gone to meet the SP at his office around 1 pm on February 12. Since SP was not in the office, she met the additional SP who assured her to look into the grievance.
However, she later set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her body. Following the incident, police rushed her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur with 95 per cent burn injuries.
In the absence of a Burn unit at MKCG, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack the same day. After undergoing treatment at the SCB for two days, she was referred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on February 14, where she succumbed to her injuries.
