Puri: The mortal remains of BJD leader and former Odisha minister Pradeep Maharathy was consigned to flames at Swargadwar here on Sunday with full state honour.
The last rites were performed by his son, Rudra Pratap Maharathy. His daughter, Pallavi Maharathy, was also present.
Among others, Puri Collector Balwant Singh, SP Akhileswar Singh, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash and several BJD leaders also attended the funeral.
Earlier in the day, Maharathy’s body was taken to the Assembly and BJD party office where several leaders cutting across party lines paid their last respects.
The body was later taken to the farm house at Pipili where thousands of people thronged to have a last glimpse of their leader.
