Jajpur: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Odisha MLA Pranab Balabantaray appears to be encountering fresh trouble with allegations of land grab surfacing against him in Jajpur.
According to sources, Pranab has been accused of having grabbed some government land at Nuagaon under Dharmasala Tehsil in the district in a fraudulent manner.
Complaints in this regard have reportedly been lodged by some local residents before the Jajpur district Collector.
The authorities concerned have reportedly initiated steps to verify the allegation and ascertain whether he has grabbed any government land. Officials of the Revenue department started the preliminary measurement of the land on Thursday for the demarcation of the government land as part of the verification process.
A local resident said that he had drawn the attention of the authorities that the former MLA has encroached government forest and grazing land for constructing a luxurious building.
Pranab was not immediately available to comment on the issue.
