Bhubaneswar: A delegation of BJD MPs met Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal at Sansad Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday seeking creation of a single railway zone for Odisha.
The delegation led by BJD’s Parliamentary Party Leader in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahatab submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister demanding that the Centre should take immediate steps to create three railway divisions at Rayagada, Rourkela and Jajpur Road.
Earlier on February 16, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written a letter to the Railway Minister requesting him to unify the entire state under a single zone of East Coast Railway (ECoR).
In his letter, the CM had urged the Minister to create three more railway divisions in Rourkela, Jajpur/Jajpur-Keonjhar Road and Rayagada under the ECoR for the convenience of the people in the state.
