New Delhi: Protesting against Centre’s apathy towards Odisha, the BJD MPs on Friday staged a walkout in Parliament before the commencement of the debate on the no-confidence motion brought against the BJP-led NDA government.
As soon as the session started, leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party (BJDPP) Bhartruhari Mahtab said participating in the no-trust motion will not benefit Odisha as the state has been a victim of the central apathy since last 14 years.
“Since the Congress-led UPA government during its 10-year tenure and the BJP-led NDA government in the last four years have done grave injustice to the people of Odisha, the debate on the no-trust motion in Parliament will not be fruitful for the people of the state. Therefore, we are staging a walkout and not participating in the debate,” Mahtab informed the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Notably, the BJD MPs in a meeting on Thursday had decided that it will take a stand on the no-confidence motion.
Asked about the decision taken at the meeting, MP Prasanna Patsani had said that all the party MPs decided to wait for the chief minister to take the final call on the issue. “Whatever decision he takes on this issue will be carried out during the debate in Parliament,” he had pointed out.
