Bhubaneswar: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri on Friday called upon all secular parties to stand united against the BJP.
“In the wake of the political situation in the country, the BJP government should be unseated. CPM will make necessary efforts to ensure that the saffron party will not be able to take advantage of the polarization of votes of the non-BJP parties,” Yechuri told mediapersons after arriving at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Odisha capital on Friday afternoon on a two-day visit to the state.
He further said due to the capitalist policy of the BJP government, the poor has become poorer and the rich is getting richer in the country.
Asked about the role of the BJD government, the CPM leader said the ruling party has a major role to play against the BJP government.
To a question on whether his party will have an alliance with the BJD in the forthcoming elections, Yechuri said the party’s state committee will take a decision in this regard.
He also made it clear that his party will not share any forum in which the Congress is involved.
Referring to formation of a third front, the CPM leader said going by the political history in this country, the third front has been formed in the country after the elections. “In 1996, the United Front led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda was formed while the UPA government led by former prime minster Manmohan Singh was formed in 2004,” he pointed out.
The CPM leader later left for Berhampur. He is scheduled to attend an open session of the party’s state committee in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
