Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) may cease to exist by 2029, senior BJP leader and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra said on Thursday.
He was responding to BJD MP Munna Khan’s claims that 14 BJP MLAs, who had switched sides, are in touch with them and the regional party will bounce back to power soon.
“The law allows for defection provided that at least two-thirds of a party’s legislators are in favour of it. He does not seem to know his maths well,” Jayanarayan said, claiming that Munna Khan is himself worried about his future in BJD.
Continuing his tirade, the BJP MLA said that BJD is a party of slaves and its leaders, therefore, should desist from making political statements. “The BJD is unlikely to survive for long. Not beyond 2029,” he added.
Attending a ‘Jansampark Padyatra’ in Nabarangpur, Munna said that 14 BJP MLAs are in touch with BJD and can help them bring down the Mohan Majhi government. “Before the elections, at least 22 of our party leaders switched camps. Now, they have become MLAs. At least 14 of them are in touch with us. They will soon join us and we will form the government once again,” he claimed.
He further stated that at least 90% of the block and zilla parishads are with BJD. “If elections are held today, the BJD would win at least 100 seats,” he added.
