BJD Picks Sarojini Hembram For Baripada Assembly Seat

Bhubaneswar: BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced the candidature of party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sarojini Hembram from Baripada assembly seat.

Sarojini, daughter of former minister Chaitanya Prasad Majhi, replaces sitting MLA and deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi. Her Rajya Sabha tenure will expire in April 2020. She was elected on a BJD ticket from Bangiriposi Assembly seat in 2009 and nominated as the party’s Rajya Sabha member in 2014.

With this, BJD has fielded six Rajya Sabha members of whom Prasanna Acharya, Achyut Samant and Anubhav Mohanty will contest Bargarh, Kandhamal and Kendrapara Lok Sabha seats while Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Pratap Deb have been fielded from Khandapada and Aul Assembly seats respectively.
