Bhubaneswar: Slamming the Opposition Congress and BJP for allegedly
politicising Kunduli gangrape survivor’s suicide issue, BJD state
secretary Bijay Nayak advised them to desist from the same as it may
set a wrong precedent.

Stating that the state-wide dawn-to-dusk bandh called by both the
parties were totally unsuccessful as it became a burden for common
people and poor, Nayak said the opposition parties should stop
these measures which will further affect their livelihood.

“The Chief Minister has expressed grief over Kunduli victim’s death.  A
judicial probe into the matter is on to reveal the truth behind the
incident,” Nayak added.

On the other hand, the state Unit of BJP said the hartal
called by them received a good response from the people as most business establishments remained shut and vehicles stayed off the road across the state to express solidarity with the hartal.

“A seven-member team of the BJP led by state president Basanta Panda
will visit the minor girl’s village to take stock of the situation and
initiate further action accordingly,” a senior party leader informed.

Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad
Harichandan thanked the people of the state for extending their
support to the party in making the bandh successful.

“The party workers detained trains at several railway stations and staged
demonstrations in different parts of the state to put pressure on the ruling BJD government for recommending a CBI inquiry into the suicide of minor girl, who ended her life on Monday after being denied justice,” Harichandan said.
