Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday staged a two-hour peaceful protest (10 am to 12 noon) against the prevailing cash crunch in ATMs.
In Bhubaneswar, members of party’s women, student and youth wings staged separate demonstrations in front of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), State Bank of India (SBI) main branch and other nationalised banks expressing their strong resentments over the unavailability of cash in ATMs.
“People from all walks of life including women, youths, students, farmers and self help group members are facing a lot of problems owing to such precarious situation. The cash crunch in ATMs has completely paralysed the banking system as a financial emergency-like situation has arisen across the country”, Biju Chhatra Janata Dal president Rana Pratap Patra said.
The protest will be intensified in the days to come, if the Centre fails to address the issue at the earliest, Patra added.
Similar demonstrations were also organised by the party members separately at all the sub-divisions and blocks of the state and memorandums were submitted to the branch managers of the concerned banks suggesting measures on how to get rid of the crisis.
