Bhubaneswar: BJD student leader Chinmaya Nanda Badajena was arrested late on Thursday night for his alleged involvement in illegal firearms trade in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said Chinamaya was negotiating for the sale of a gun for Rs 45,000 here. He also fired a blank to show how the gun was functioning. On being tipped off, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch laid a trap to nab Chinmaya. They clamped down when Chinmaya was dealing with an undercover cop to sell the gun for Rs 45,000. The STF also seized a bullet shell from the spot.
Seven other associates of Chinmaya were also arrested and sent to Dhauli police station for further investigation and interrogation. Over 14 cases are pending against Chinmaya at different police stations.
