Cuttack: Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) student wing leader Akram Khan alias Bobby was arrested by the police on Sunday in connection with an attack on a student on the premises of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack city.
Sources said Khan was arrested by Cuttack Malgodown Police on the basis of a complaint lodged by a student alleging assault by the BJD student wing leader. ified as Bobby Khan.
The Plus 3 student had alleged that he was stopped on the road by a group of miscreants and beaten with iron rods.
It was alleged that Khan intercepted the student near the College Square area in the city and forcibly took him inside the Ravenshaw University campus, where he and his associates attacked him.
Further investigation into the incident is in progress to ascertain the motive behind the attack and the alleged involvement of his associates.
This is not the first instance when Bobby Khan has been allegedly involved in a similar incident. Earlier, in September this year, he was booked along with two other BJD leaders in connection with a clash between rival groups during a torch rally organised by students to protest against the idea of renaming of Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack city. The FIR was filed based on a complaint lodged by Shyam Sundar Sahoo, a research scholar of Statistics department at Ravenshaw University, with Malgodown police.
In 2018, his alleged involvement in the Ravenshaw University sex scandal too hit the headlines.
