Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to organise its “Jan Sampark Padyatra Abhiyan” in Odisha for 15 days in two phases from October 2.

The BJD, in a press release on Sunday, said the padyatra will be taken out in blocks and urban local bodies (ULBs) of all Assembly constituencies.

The first phase of the Abhiyan will start on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and continue till October 6. Similarly, second phase will be held from October 21 to 30.

The party will also launch membership drive on October 9 on the occasion of Gopabandhu Jayanti. The drive, which will be coordinated by district presidents and state committee members, will continue till December 9

Naveen Patnaik, president of the BJD, which is the main opposition party in the state, appealed to all its MLAs, MPs, organisers, workers and supporters to take active part during the Abhiyan.

He told them to promote the welfare programmes of the previous BJD government and highlight the failure of the present BJP government in different fronts including law and order, women security, price rise and others.
