Bhubaneswar: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of having failed to fulfil its poll promises in Odisha, opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to launch a public awareness campaign across the state to highlight the alleged failure.
BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who is also the Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Assembly, said in a post on X handle that the regional party will launch the public awareness campaign in every gram panchayat from August 16.
During the campaign, people across the state will be made aware of the BJP government’s alleged failure to fulfil its poll promise in giving Rs 3,000 old-age pension to all the beneficiaries, he said.
Terming the promises made by BJP ahead of the recent elections as hollow, Naveen said the saffron party had promised to hike the allowance/pension of the beneficiaries of different social security schemes from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,500. The beneficiaries include elderly people, disabled persons, and widows, he said.
However, the state budget states that people above 80 years of age and those with 80 per cent disabilities will get enhanced allowances, the BJD chief said, adding that there is growing resentment among the people over ‘betrayal’ by the BJP.
Therefore, BJD will undertake public awareness campaign across the state to highlight alleged injustice being done to the people and remind BJP of its poll promises, Naveen added.
