Rayagada: Ganagadhar Puala of the ruling BJD on Wednesday won the bypoll to Rayagada Zilla Parishad Chairman post with 13 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated after the District and Sessions Judge Court declared election of late Purussottam Gamang of Congress null and void on December 24, 2019. Hours after losing the legal battle, the Congress leader had died in a road accident.
The Congress candidate, Asutosh Kilaka, got only five though 10 among the 20 members in the council were from the party. The BJD has seven members. The four BJP members abstained from voting.
