BJD Woman Leader Among 4 Arrested For ‘Shoe’ Assault On MCL Official In Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Police on Friday arrested four persons, including a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former sarpanch Parbati Behera, for allegedly thrashing an official of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) with a shoe the previous day.

The incident took place at MCL’s Bandabahal office in Lakhanpur block and came to light after a purported video of the assault went viral.

The four were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim, MCL coal mines general manager Sanjay Jha. He alleged that Behera along with four others barged into his office and beat him up with a shoe.

In the viral video, Behera can be seen engaged in a heated conversation with the MCL official before it took an ugly turn. While hitting the official with her shoe, she can heard directing her associates to film the entire incident and stating that she was ready for police action.
