Nuapada: Vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the road connecting Raipur and Gopalpur following a road blockade staged by BJD workers near Kurumapuri village in Nuapada district demanding immediate completion of the ongoing repair work of National Highway-353.
Owing to the blockade, hundreds of trucks remained stranded on the National Highway passing through these areas for several hours.
“Despite several requests by locals, the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have failed to complete the repair work of the national highway. As a result of which, plying of heavy vehicles on the busy road has been largely affected. Therefore, we have decided to intensify the agitation in the days to come, if our demand is not fulfilled at the earliest, an agitator said.
On Tuesday, a 24-hour economic blockade was observed by Nagarika Sachetan Manch over the same demand.
The protestors staged had road blockades at various places including Khariar, Komna, Udyanabandha, Kurumapuri, Sinapali and Boden, disrupting movement of trucks. However, plying of private buses was exempted from the purview of the bandh.
