Bhubaneswar: Soon after Odisha’s ruling BJD announced its support to the bill replacing the Delhi services ordinance and opposition to the no-confidence motion proposed by opposition group, Congress lashed out at the Naveen Patnaik-led party over its decision.
Coming down heavily on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the issue, Congress leader and party’s campaign committee chairman in Odisha, BIjay Patnaik claimed that the regional party has been exposed with its decision.
Accusing BJD of having surrendered before Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Patnaik said the move shows that the regional outfit is not with INDIA combine.
“Now BJD stands exposed. It’s not with the INDIA alliance and has surrendered before BJP,” the Congress leader tweeted.
In a stinging attack on BJD for its decision to oppose the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government proposed by various opposition parties over Manipur issue, Patnaik said the move has clearly exposed the hollowness of the ruling party’s tall claims about high respect for women.
The opposition parties moved the no-confidence motion in Parliament against the Narendra Modi government over large scale violence in Manipur, where brutal assault on women was allegedly unleashed over the last three months. A video that showed two women being paraded naked sparked global outrage and condemnation.
The Congress leader said that BJD’s decision to oppose the no-trust motion raised questions over its claim about having highest respect for women.
“The vote bank of BJD is women voters. It claims that it has the highest respect for women. Then what about the women of #Manipur ?” Patnaik tweeted.
Earlier, BJD’s Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra stated that the regional party will support the bill replacing the Delhi services ordinance and oppose the no-confidence motion proposed by opposition parties against the Union government.
