BJP Core Committee Meets In Delhi Over Selection Of New Odisha Unit President

Bhubaneswar: As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to have a new president for its Odisha unit, the party’s national core committee reportedly held an important meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the issue.

As per sources, the crucial meeting of top BJP leaders held deliberations as part of the exercise to revamp the organisation and choose a new president for Odisha, where the saffron party formed its maiden government with an impressive electoral victory last year.

While firming up strategies to further consolidate its base in the state, the party is now in search of a suitable leader who will be able to effectively steer the organisation and further strengthen the base in Odisha.

While the main agenda of the meeting is to consider and examine potential leaders for the key post, the aim is to find someone who can succeed in leading the cadre and translate party’s strategies into action in the state.

The meeting was reportedly attended by senior leaders including BJP national vice-president and MP Baijayant Panda, present state party president Manmohan Samal, party’s Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar and deputy in-charge Lata Usendi, sources said.

Apart from making a thorough assessment of the organisational position, the meeting seeks to firm up strategies for the future. Discussion on the appointment of district unit presidents was also reported to have taken place and a conclusive list of new leaders is expected to be issued within the nest couple of days.

When the district presidents’ names are confirmed, an official announcement regarding the state president can be made.

While political observers are keen to know whether BJP will appoint a new leader or allow Manmohan Samal to continue as its Odisha unit chief, sources said the focus should be on organising the youth properly to make the party ready for meeting all challenges in future.
