Bargarh: Bharatiya Janata Party activists on Monday staged a dharna in front of the office of Superintendent of Police here demanding justice for the death of Gobind Kumhar who had died in police detention Saturday morning.
Four policemen had picked up Gobinda from his Tora residence in the wee hours (2 am) of Saturday but he was found dead at 6 am bearing multiple bleeding injuries.
Kumhar’s relatives, however, demanded action against the guilty policemen responsible for the “gruesome murder”. They also took out a procession when they were beaten up by lathi-wielding cops.
The BJP activists, who staged a dharna near the SP’s office, demanded action against the guilty policemen. “No disciplinary action was taken against the guilty policemen and that no FIR was filed against the four who are believed to have adopted third degree methods leading to the death of the detainee,” said BJP district president Aswini Shadangi.
Demanding that the government order a CBI probe into the episode and treat the case as a “custodial death”, Shadangi said all policemen involved in the case should be brought to book and transferred immediately. He also demanded provision of governmennt employment to the widow of Gobind Kumhar and financial assistance for the studies of their two children among other things.
