Kendrapada: Continuing its agitation against irregularities in implementation of PMAY scheme, BJP workers on Saturday gheraoed the block office in Odisha’s Kendrapada on Saturday.

According to sources, hundreds of BJP workers, led by Sunakar Behera, went in a rally to the block office, raising slogans against the state government, and staged a demonstration there.

The activists of the opposition party in the state alleged that most of the beneficiaries in the list notified by the block office for availing houses under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) were not eligible. While the deserving persons have been deprived of getting houses under the scheme, affluent people’s names have been included in the list by the government officials, they added.

Speaking to media persons at the demonstration spot, Behera said, “The district administration has deliberately excluded the names of poor people not supporting the ruling BJD and included those supporting the party. This is deliberate attempt by the government to harass the people opposing the BJD.”

The agitators demanded that the administration must scrap the list and release a fresh one after including the names of bona fide beneficiaries.

It may be noted that the BJP had taken out a rally in state capital in protest against irregularities in the PMAY scheme on February 4 and decided to gherao block offices across the state on the issue.
