Bhubaneswar: Wrapped in mosquito nets, BJP activists staged a novel protest outside the office of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) accusing it of having made the Odisha capital a mosquito hotspot due to utter negligence.
The demonstration was held a day after the BMC announced plans to curb the mosquito menace plaguing the capital city by deploying drones to spray chemicals in different parts of the city which cannot be accessed by vehicles.
Holding banners and placards, the protesters raised slogans against the BMC accusing it of having failed to contain the alarming rise in mosquito menace which has been plaguing the city. Some of them were seen wrapped in mosquito nets.
Stating that effective measures should have been taken by the BMC to control mosquito menace after the rainy season, the demonstrators alleged that drains are choked in many parts of Bhubaneswar due to negligence and apathy by the civic body.
Similarly, garbage heaps are spread in different areas due to inefficiency of the corporation which remains indifferent towards various civic issues. As a result mosquito menace has assumed an alarming proportion, posing serious health hazards, they claimed.
