New Delhi: The BJP is working on a new plan to reach out to Gen Z voters ahead of the upcoming elections. BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday chaired a meeting with senior party leaders to discuss the plan.
The meeting focused on understanding the views of young people, the problems they face and possible ways to address their concerns. Nabin, the youngest BJP president, led the discussions.
The party has renewed its focus on Gen Z and other young voters after a series of protests involving young people. The BJP wants to build greater trust among the youth, who form a large part of the electorate.
45 Leaders Attend Meeting
Party sources said nearly 45 leaders from important states attended the meeting. They included leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat, which are among the states expected to hold assembly elections, as reported by The New Indian Express
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, several MPs and former ministers were also present. “Those who attended the meeting carry a strong appeal and influence among the youth,” a senior party functionary said.
Former Union minister Anurag Thakur, Union Minister Kamlesh Paswan, actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan, BJP general secretary Harish Dwivedi, Tejasvi Surya and Raju Bista attended the meeting.
BJP Yuva Morcha president Hemang Joshi, Poonam Mahajan and former Union minister and newly appointed BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani also took part.
This besides, Gujarat deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi and Chhattisgarh deputy chief minister Vijay Sharma were among the other participants.
Focus On Elections
The meeting discussed ways to prepare a broad plan for the BJP’s youth outreach, sources said. The party’s preparations for assembly elections in seven states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat, were also reviewed.
“The BJP has also set up a dedicated team to reach out to young people and understand their aspirations, concerns and expectations,” a party leader said.
The team will help the BJP understand the views of young people and change its strategy when required, the leader said. Its work will be important for the assembly elections in 2027 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2029.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently asked ministers to meet students under the ‘One Day–One University/College’ initiative, sources said. BJP leaders, including MLAs, have also started visiting schools in their constituencies and interacting with students.
