New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a showcause notice to its MP Ramesh Bidhuri for using unparliamentary words against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Kunwar Danish Ali in Lok Sabha.
During a discussion on Chandrayaan-3 mission on Thursday, Bidhri attacked Danish with religious slurs and phrases which is equivalent to hate speech.
Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks have been expunged.
Taking “serious note” of Bidhuri’s comments, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla earlier on Friday cautioned the MP not to repeat such behaviour.
The BJP has sought a response from its South Delhi MP as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for using unparliamentary language.
Danish Ali said he would consider giving up his Lok Sabha membership if action is not taken against Bidhuri.
“When this is the condition of an elected member like me, then what will be the condition of a common man? I hope I will get justice and the Speaker will conduct an enquiry. Or else, with a heavy heart, I will think about leaving this Parliament because this can’t be tolerated,” the BSP leader said.
The opposition also called for strict action against Bidhuri, with Congress MP Jairam Ramesh demanding the BJP MP’s suspension from Parliament.
Ramesh also slammed former Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Harsh Vardhan, accusing them of being “shamelessly gleeful” when Bidhuri was making the speech.
“Two former Union Cabinet Ministers, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Dr Harsh Vardhan, shamelessly gleeful at the hate speech made by their party colleague Ramesh Bidhuri yesterday in the Lok Sabha. They deserve as much condemnation as the most awful Bidhuri himself. This is the shameful level to which BJP under Modi-Shah has fallen,” Jairam Ramesh wrote on X.
