Bhubaneswar: The BJD on Friday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha, against BJP Khurda MLA candidate Prashant Jagdev’s repeated misconduct against police and other government officials.
The party leaders alleged that Jagdev abused police personnel deployed near Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar on Friday and called them thieves. “He did that in front of the public and even said that the mere sight of police personnel agitates him.”
The BJD complained that the BJP candidate has a history of violent behaviour and threatened the Khurda collector and the SP a few days back. He also threatened to disrupt the elections by attacking Khurda police station on May 24 night, they further alleged, and urged the CEO to take it seriously.
Stating that Jagdev was expelled from BJD after he assaulted the BJP town president, the BJD leaders expressed surprise at BJP’s decision to field him from their party. “He was arrested and after his release had even tried to mow down BJP supporters with his vehicle, injuring more than 15 of them,” they said in the memorandum and sought the CEO’s prompt action to stop his ‘goondaism’.
