Rayagada: BJP leader Basanta Kumar Ullaka has claimed to have escaped an attempt on his life at the party office in Odisha’s Rayagada as his supporters reached the site in time, forcing the attackers to flee.
As per information, the incident took place when Ulaka, who was BJP’s MLA candidate in the last elections, was sitting inside the party office at Vidyanagar in Rayagada and some miscreants armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons suddenly appeared.
The miscreants vandalised the office and tried to barge in by breaking open the door. They damaged the door and were about to mount an attack on the leader when his supporters reached the building.
Party leaders said Ulaka escaped unharmed as the attackers fled the scene after seeing his supporters.
While the motive behind the attack on the BJP office is yet to be ascertained, investigation by the police is in progress. Police have detained two suspects in connection with the incident and seized a sword from them.
Demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and steps to nab the culprits, Ulaka said he is facing threat to his life. Immediate steps should be taken to arrest the miscreants, he said.
